The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Boost Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Comes After Lukewarm Feedback

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a more defined vision.

The president expressed that the developers is now refining the project with a revised approach, aiming to address community desires.

Trend of Key Recruitment

This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the full message from the president's announcement:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was informative. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to heart and overhauled the title with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our audience.

The belief in this project grows every day. To advance the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of the team. After several months of talks, Ben starts with us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and experience in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having devoted the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in welcoming him soon. We are all looking forward to continue observing the development of the game in the time to come.

David
