Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important official stated the attack rendered him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
